Paper Walls – Wände aus Papier. So heißt der Song, und so heißt auch das Projekt. Bestehend aus vier jungen Artists, die sich in Hamburg (Popkurs, Hochschule für Musik und Theater) über den Weg gelaufen sind: Lina Brockhoff, David Wittmann, Jem Bosatta und Felix Roch. Alle vier haben sonst eigene Projekte, alle hatten Lust was Neues auszuprobieren. Im August 2020 schreiben sie an einem hitzedurchtränkten Tag einen Song für den Winter. Am 17.12.2020 wird "Paper Walls" via Bandcamp veröffentlicht. Das Besondere: Was der|die Hörer:in für den Song bezahlen will, ist ihm|ihr selbst überlassen. Der Erlös kommt zu 100% der Obdachlosenhilfe Berlin zugute.
"Paper Walls" handelt vom Zurücklassen alter Muster und Gewohnheiten. "Selbst Wände aus Papier können einengen und einschränken", sagt Producer Felix Roch, "wobei die aber durch einen kleinen Funken schon in Rauch aufgehen und neue Wege freigeben können." Zufall, dass der Song ausgerechnet zum Jahresausklang 2020 erscheint – dem Jahr, das die Menschen mehr als jedes vorige das große "Leave Your Comfort Zone" gelehrt hat? Wer weiß. Die vier Songwriter jedenfalls kommen unterschiedlichsten Backgrounds und Stilistiken. Das Projekt Paper Walls vereint all das auf erstaunlich homogene Weise.

Paper Walls: the song and the mission. Four young artists - Lina Brockhoff, David Wittmann, Jem Bosatta und Felix Roch - whose paths crossed in Hamburg. They converged with the promise to put their own projects to one side and try something new. And so, as the August sun bored through the windows, they brooded over this song - a song for winter.
On the 17th Dec. 2020, Paper Walls will premiere on Bandcamp, on a pay-what-you-like basis, and will appear nowhere else. It’s an unusual strategy and with very good reason: 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Obdachlosenhilfe (Help the Homeless) Berlin.
Paper Walls is about breaking free from old patterns, habits and homes. “The walls around us, however thin, can suppress and even suffocate us”, comments producer Felix Roch, “and yet at the merest hint of a spark, they go up in flames and set us free to take new paths.” It can’t be a coincidence that this song should accompany the last ring of the bell in 2020, a year that has given the phrase “leave your comfort zone” new urgency for all of us. From four artists and four different stylistic backgrounds, here’s a song that gushes with commonality, empathy, and hope.
